Abstract

This project aims to study coronal mass ejections (CMEs), its resulting structures in the interplanetary medium (ICMEs) and interplanetary shocks in a comprehensive and detailed way. Observations from coronagraphs onboard both the twin spacecraft STEREO (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) and the SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) will be used. In the Earth vicinity, the observation from magnetometers onboard spacecraft and observation multidirectional cosmic ray muon detectors will be used. The main objective is to study the speed, direction of propagation and orientation of CME tube flux and comparing it with analogous parameters derived from the ICMEs. It is of especial interest here studying not radial movement and processes of acceleration/deceleration of ICMEs in the interplanetary medium. The results will improve the understanding of the Sun-Earth relations by allowing better understanding of what coronal mass ejections and interplanetary shock may cause near the Earth.
