Abstract

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international organization of health professionals, researchers, consumers (patients) and others, which responds to the challenge of making a large amount of evidence generated through useful research to inform healthcare decisions. Cochrane's mission is to promote health decisions based on evidence of high quality production called systematic reviews (SRs). The SRs are generated by over 31,000 employees in over 120 countries, nonprofit being free from commercial sponsorship and other conflicts of interest. In January 2014, the Cochrane adopted a strategy of complete translation with the aim of increasing the ability to translate the contents of reviews from English to other languages and to strengthen the impact of the best available evidence in countries that do not speak English. To achieve this goal, the Cochrane invited the Evidence-Based Medicine at the FMB / UNESP. This research project called Health in Your Language (SSL), will be conducted initially by at least 42 researchers from several reviewers Departments of the Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu/UNESP - Botucatu-SP as the Department of Anesthesiology, Tropical Diseases and Imaging Diagnosis, Clinical and Ophthalmology / Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, as well as several national universities like the University of Sorocaba, Universidade Federal da Bahia, Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás, Londrina State University and international universities such as the University of Sydney, Australia and University of Montreal, Canada, counting with the support of representatives of the Cochrane Collaboration for the implementation, monitoring and dissemination of the results of this project. As this project aims to cover the largest number of fluent volunteers willing to participate in this project Health in Your Language Portuguese language. New members will be added on our coordination office. Abstracts and plain language summaries of systematic reviews of the full Cochrane Collaboration aiming to provide the best evidence for health care for the community of Portuguese-speaking countries (Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Macau) will be translated either about effectiveness, efficacy and safety of various treatments as also sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests, thus allowing better access to high quality information in these countries and thus contributing to the success of the mission of the Cochrane and its strategic objectives. Employees from different areas of health researchers will be responsible for translating part of the contents of systematic reviews (level I evidence) of the Cochrane Collaboration of the English language to Portuguese generating a greater amount of information to also be used in the preparation of guidelines and clinical decision making in health care in countries that speak Portuguese.
