Abstract

The object of the research are the rhetorical and philosophical elements of Cicero's "Pro Archia Poeta", and the research aims to show that such elements are conflicting, ie that the rhetorical elements escape the common practice in Roman courts and assemblies, and that the philosophical elements contradict the philosophical affiliation of the Author. The "Pro Archia" was read more than once as a minor speech. Some experts have even ask what would have taken the eminent consul to defend an obscure poet. So the first scope of the research is to show that, on the contrary, the "Pro Archia" is a speech full of rhetorical and philosophical tensions, so that it is difficult for the audience, and daring on the part of the speaker.
