Abstract

We can say that nature conservation units are the most effective way to protect biodiversity known. In Brazil, one of the modalities of these units are privately the Private Reserves of Natural Heritage, which show the private owner's interest in preservation. Similarly in Spain, private security has important incentives. In this country, as in many other countries the process of protection on private land is called Custodia del territorio and is achieved through partnerships between custodians and the landowner, unlike Brazil where there is public participation. Currently in Spain, the creation of these areas process is determined by Law 42 of December 13, 2007, on the Patrimonio y Natural de la Biodiversidad the country. This research aims develop a comparative study between private protected areas of the state of Paraná, Brazil and Catalunya, Spain, creating a new and current diagnosis of these units, as well as evaluating the management given the properties in both countries. The aim is to further understand the relationship of these nature protection properties with the different government agencies and non-profit entities, such as the territory custodians. This comparative research between the two countries will be essential for the exchange of information and techniques as well as for updating and formulation of specific public policies that combine nature conservation and land use by their owners.
