Abstract

Physical inactivity and the presence of obesity, among other risk factors for health have been responsible for the emergence of numerous chronic diseases and, consequently, the increase in health spending. Thus, the aim of this research is to examine if aggregation of factors / behaviors of risk are associates to loss of work productivity and increased health care costs in adults treated at SUS. For that at least 200 patients will be invited to join the research and will be evaluated about: i) treatment costs, ii) loss of productivity, iii) body fat; iv) level of physical activity, vi) sleep, vii) pain, viii) alcohol consumption, ix) smoking, x) historical economic condition, xi) diseases, xii) metabolic indicators. Thus, the sample will subdivided into four groups: (i) no behavior / risk factor, (ii) 1-2 behaviors / risk factors, (iii) behaviors 3-4 / risk factor and (iv) 5-6 behaviors / risk factors. Statistical analysis will be composed by analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to establish comparisons between health care costs and lost productivity (in local currency) and groups of factor risks formed. For categorical data, the chi-square test will be used to analyze associations and logistic regression and multivariate model. In all analyzes, statistical significance (p-value) will be pre-set at less than 5% values. The software used will be BioEstat (version 5.0).
