Abstract

Currently, the advent of multifunctional materials answers the society demands in several application fields. Accordingly, the development of nanomaterials, such as nanocomposites, has been related to the necessity of improving an ensemble of functions of the materials, including mechanical, thermal and electric properties. In view of ameliorating the global properties, the incorporation of nanoparticles in multifunctional composites has increasingly been studied. The mechanical performance of multifunctional composites in the conventional form may be significantly improved by the addition of carbon nanotubes Buckypapers. In this work, the influence of the addition of Buckypapers on the mechanical properties of carbon fiber/PEI composites will be evaluated. Firstly, the material will be processed using a vacuum filtration method. After the pressing of the composites, the efficiency of the process will be evaluated by ultrasonic testing and microscopy. At last, the mechanical characterization will be developed by Compression Shear Test (CST) and End Notched Flexure (ENF), aiming the qualification of the composite as a structural material.
