Abstract Some studies have attempted to understand the formation of the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of the University of São Paulo. However, there is a historiographical gap regarding the questioning of the formation of a scientific elite from this teaching and research center, as well as the propagation of a mythical discourse which tells the department would have become a center of disinterested science's production. Thus, this doctoral project intends to problematize the formation of this department; the political and social events which supported the rise of a scientific elite; and, more, understand how it relates to the constructed, widespread picture about these subjects and about the teaching and research institution. | |
