Abstract

Lymph nodes are part of the immune system and have the ability to retain and sometimes destroy or at least slow down, the spread of bacteria, viruses, protozoa and tumors by the body. The node consists of two layers, the cortex, which is the external layer and an internal layer, called the spinal cord. In the cortex located in the lymphoid nodules of varying sizes, composed mainly of B lymphocytes, surrounded by a thin rim of T lymphocytes The fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of lymph node is a simple, inexpensive procedure, fast and can be interpreted clearly. It is an important tool in the diagnosis of lymphadenopathy, commonly found in veterinary patients. The lymphadenopathy can be classified as immune stimulation (hyperplasia), inflammation (lymphadenitis), and cancer (lymphoma or metastatic). This project aims to evaluate aspiration biopsy through fine needle cellular standard and possible abnormalities of the popliteal lymph node of cats coming from the Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ) from Araçatuba-SP.
