Abstract

The aims of the present study are the following: a) to exam the relationships between parenting practices and child behavior problems (internalizing and externalizing behavior), socioeconomic levels, mother educational level, age of children and sex; and b) to exam the relationships between mothers` history of mental health, mother´s violence in infancy, and life events and parenting practices and child behavior problems. The total sample comprises 200 mothers of children at 3 to 8 years of age, belonging to families living in Ribeirão Preto (SP), Brazil. The participants were recruit at the Family Health Program (FMRP-USP) and schools. Participants answered the following scales and questionnaires: ACT Evaluation to assess the parenting practices, Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to assess the child's behavior, Vital Events Scale, Economic Classification Criterion Brazil, SCID/Non-Patient, and a questionnaire about the relations of the mother with her family. A set of path analyses will be use to test direct and indirect relationships between variables of interest. To examine associations among measures a Structural Equation Model will be performed. Analyses of the internal consistencies of the measures and overall model fit will be carried out. (AU)
