Abstract

This research aims at the study of the nature and the role of the São Paulo first industry from 1870 to 1914. We intend to investigate its true importance on São Paulo economy at this period as well as its influence in the urban transformations on the city. We also intend to georeference the first industry characterizing its initial geography and its displacements occurred from downtown to the suburbs. The idea is to draw an overview of this industry, constituted at that time by small factories and manufacturing, mapping its localization, its development and its economic dimension on the daily social life and on São Paulo urbanism, amid the prominent coffee economy.
