Abstract

The Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm was originally proposed for solving optimization problems, based on the intelligent behaviour of bees in their natural habitat. Since then the ABC algorithm has been implemented to solve several problems, e.g. artificial neural network trainning, portfolio optimization,lot-sizing procedure, computer vision and clustering. In particular, a recent publication proposed the application of the ABC algorithm to the electric power system area, covering the multi-objective optimal power flow problem. The main goals of this project are (a) to study in detail the ABC algorithm and (b) to start studies towards advanced applications to electric power systems problems. (AU)
