Abstract

This research project aims to develop the last two chapters of our thesis. Knowing we want to demonstrate the possibility of substantial union from even the Cartesian theory of real distinction between soul and body, during the research stage we investigate how the presence of the sensations of revealing passions of the human compound (the fact proof of the side: the experience of the interaction between soul and body) and the common primitive notions (the right proof: with metaphysical arguments) serve to justify the radical dualism between soul and body does not produce the alleged problem of substantial union in the philosophy of Descartes. This is why we chose Professor Laurence Renault to oversee our activities at the Centre d'Etudes Cartesiennes of Univerité Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV), once his researches depart from analyzes of the passions of the soul and having seen the conception of human happiness. For this reason, the work carried out during this research seek to demonstrate the general ontological contribution of the "passions of the soul" and "common notions", demonstrating that all the passions not only assume the fact of the substantial union, but itself witness its ontological disposition - which will unathorize any interpretation looking for classifying them as an attribute of a third substance, as sustains Kambuchner. Such an interpretation will then be confirmed, or even more justified since developed the last chapter of the thesis, which will focus on the overall importance of the simple nature and common notions of Cartesian metaphysics. Then we will analyze more specifically the possibility of extracting them, that is, the eternal truths and logical principles, reasons aimed at proving that the union of soul and body does not contradict the real distinction between these substances because of their nature they remain and are truly immutable.
