Abstract

Mandibular fractures present high incidence among the facial trauma. The occurrence of postoperative complications is less frequent when using internal osteosynthesis means, as miniplates and screws of titanium. However, the complications can still be present and are often related to the loss of the screws and/or miniplates, which consequently leads to an instability of the mandibular bone segments occurring the nonunion. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of occlusal stability in occurrence of postoperative complications in mandibular fractures treated by rigid internal fixation with titanium miniplates and screws. Will be selected patients of oral maxillofacial surgery and Traumatology at the University who received as a treatment of fracture of mandible osteosynthesis by miniplates and screws. All the patients selected will be partially toothed and toothed and are excluded from the total edentulous. Will be established as positive patients with occlusal stability of all teeth, with absence of third molars and the absence of partial edentulous mandibular arch free extremes and/or jaw. The method of attachment and the presence or absence of occlusal stability will be correlated with the complications found.
