Abstract

This project intends to follow up the current research being carried on in Brazil by characterizing the spectroscopic binaries detected in our sample of solar twins. These stars show enhanced rotation rates when compared to single stars, which suggests they may have a different rotational evolution. We aim towards obtaining the orbits of these multiple stellar systems by analyzing radial velocity data from our HARPS and MIKE observations and from the literature. Our objective can be accomplished by fitting binary orbit parameters to the variation of radial velocities with time. This will allow us to precisely measure the masses of the binaries and their ages, which is key to provide stringent tests on stellar ages of the primary star obtained through isochrones and on current models of stellar evolution of binaries.
