Abstract

In the day-ahead electricity markets, generation companies face new challenging problems with the ultimate goal of maximizing their profits. One of those problems consists of determining, in the short-term, the optimal self-scheduling of the units belonging to the company so that the profit from selling energy is maximized without regard to the power balance in the system. In this project we propose a 0/1 mixed-integer linear programming model for self-scheduling problem of a generation company owning hydro and thermal plants. We assume a price-maker generating company, which means that it has the ability to alter the market-clearing prices by means of altering its offers in the market. The capability of altering market-clearing prices to its own benefits, is modeled through price -quota curves. We believe that this research provides the generation companies with a computational tool for economic analysis in the day ahead market.
