Abstract

The aim of this research project was to determine the physico-chemical properties and compatibility with the CPoint cones of one MTA-based experimental sealer (MTA-exp), and determine the quality and stability of fillings made with associations between shutter materials and techniques. Setting time, flow, dimensional stability, and radiopacity will be determined as described by standard ISO 6876/¬2001. The mapping of the chemical changes occurring during the reaction of set (Raman spectroscopy), the determination of the release of calcium ions (atomic absorption spectrophotometer) and hydroxyl ions (pH) will be carried out in the periods of 03, 24, 72 and 168 hours. The solubility will be determined volumetrically as well as the compatibility with the CPoint cones (micro-CT). Finally, the quality and stability of fillings made with the MTA-exp will evaluated using as controls the AH Plus and Endosequence BC Sealer (BCS) sealers. For these analyses, 96 teeth with oval canals will be instrumented and filled with one of the associations between the cement and gutta-percha (lateral condensation and continuous wave of condensation). Two other groups will be constituted by the MTA-exp cements and associated BCS to CPoint. Micro-CTs will be held after 07, 90 and 180 days, areas filled by root canal obturation and representing failures (gaps and voids) will be measured. The results of the determinations will be statistically analyzed to the normality of the data and submitted to analysis of variance and individual comparisons tests always with a significance level of 5%.
