Abstract

This project aims to identify galaxy clusters in the Kilo-Degree Survey (KiDS) databaseand to investigate how galaxies evolve in clusters at different scales and environments.This survey data consists of observations in 9 photometric bands (optical and near-infrared) and estimated photometric redshifts. A magnitude-limited galaxy sample will beextracted from the KiDS database. Initially, a cluster finder code will be developed basedon a Bayesian approach, it will be turned to the KiDS survey and a cluster catalogue willbe compiled. The richness and environment of these clusters will be estimated by takinginto account various selection effects. Mock catalogues will be used to test the efficiencyand accuracy of the overall approach. The internal regions and outskirts of clusters willbe analysed through optical and near-infrared photometric colours, which can be stellarpopulation proxies for galaxies (e.g., mean stellar ages). This will allow us to evaluatethe influence of cluster environment on galaxy members and on their neighbourhood asthe Universe evolves. In addiction, since galaxy filaments can often link clusters in thecosmic-web, their role on galaxy evolution will also be adressed. Our photometric analysiscan be complemented by ongoing spectroscopic surveys, such as GAMA and SDSS.
