Abstract

The integration of chronological characterization tools as C-14 dating, sedimentologic, conventional and isotopic geochemistry and palynology, is extremely important in studies on the landscape evolution and the dynamic of paleovegetation, with climate inferences. In order to enlighten paleoclimate issues in the Amazon, a sedimentary testimony of ~ 10 m depth will be collected in an active lake in Serra Sul Carajas, Southeastern Amazon region, where it is expected to characterize a record of palaeoenvironmental and paleoclimatic changes in the last ~ 100,000 years B.P. For such a purpose, faciologic, isotopic (delta 13C, delta 15N) and C/N data will be used in conjunction with pollen and spores and charcoal macro-fragments data, which will provide unique information about the sedimentary processes, sources of organic matter, vegetation patterns and dynamics of paleofires, allowing a more accurate reconstitution of paleoenvironmental changes and of paleoclimatic inferences.
