Abstract

Renewable fuels production got great incentive recently, with fuel prices increase and more environmental issues concerns. Among raw materials available for biofuels, microalgae emerge as a sustainable alternative due high productivity and needlessness in land and water quality. Taking into account the growing interest in microalgae use as biodiesel raw this research aims to analyze produce biofuel from microalgae suspensions (Chlorella sp). The algae cultivation will be in a Raceway photobioreactor (12m x 3.0 m ) (Fapesp Process 2014 / 03244-0), which provide , every 15 days, a volume of 10000 liters culture, resulting in 1.2 liters of oil which, which is sufficient for their complete characterization and to subsequent transesterification reaction for producing biodiesel. According to the results obtained by Mateus dos Santos Cristianini (FAPESP, Process 2014 / 17568-2) and Pedro Henrique Gomes Vinhal (FAPESP 2014 / 17419-0), the reactors of the "bubble columns", present on EEL / USP are limited to a maximum of 150 mL of cultivation every 15 days, considered very low since, with this amount, is achieved generate only 18 ml oil, which not allowed obtaining biodiesel by transesterification. Initially the student will assist in the installation of Raceway with feed pumps, as well as the settings of the most favorable environmental conditions for growing, so that the yield in the oil extraction is the maximum. Resulting oil will be characterized regarding saponification, acidity and iodine contents, and fatty acids average composition. Dantas (2006) and Silva Filho (2010) methodology will be followed for biodiesel produce, which will be characterized regarding specific heat, cetane number, fatty acids average composition and triglycerides absence.
