Abstract

Introduction: The keloid develops only in humans and is associated with an alteration in skin healing. It is a dermal fibrotic lesion with progressive growth beyond the edge of the original wound and does not regress spontaneously. Stimuli on the skin can modify cutaneous nerve system, which could lead to neurogenic inflammation next to the traumatic or surgical wound, that is under tension along its margins. This comes with the increase of neuropeptides concentration, promoting the development of neurons in the skin. Thereby neurogenic inflammation is an important factor in pathogenesis of keloid. Objective: Evaluate gene expression of 84 genes related to neurotransmitters receptors in keloid. Methods: 16 patients with keloid will constitute the experimental group and 16 patients without keloid will constitute the control group. The keloid will be excised from the ear lobe of patients with keloid. Part of keloid fragment will be destined to RNA extraction and PCR analysis, for evaluation of gene expression of genes related to neurotransmitters receptors in keloid. Skin fragments from mammoplasty and abdominoplasty will be destined to RNA extraction and PCR analysis, for group control evaluation. (AU)
