Abstract This research proposal aims at an investigation about the enforcement of the electronic monitoring of inmates in Brazil, connected to the current changes in the field of crime control and the new techniques of conducting conducts. Legally authorized in the beginning of the 2010's, the telematic control of individuals condemned or prosecuted by the criminal justice has been applied by the penal system and the private capital by means of electronic anklets and geo-referenced tracking. This work will analyze the practices, discourses and legal regulations regarding the recent implementation of the electronic monitoring of people under penal supervision in Brazil, as well as its social and political effects. It will be studied the social agents that organize the monitoring practices, the arguments presented concerning this measure, the possible quantitative impacts of criminal's tracking over the indexes of incarceration in Brazil and the current effects of the geo-referenced control over the social life of monitored individuals. | |
