The social and economic impacts of the bank food of CEASA Campinas in the city of Campinas

Abstract

In order to fight one of the biggest socials' Brazilians' problems, the hunger - wich has the misery and social exclusion as a consequence -, the professors José Graziano da Silva, Walter Belik e Maya Takagi, and their technical team of the "Núcleo de Economia Agrícola da Universidade Estadual" de Campinas created the "Política de Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional" to be introduced and established in Brazil, this program is popular known as Fome Zero. The project is based on educational, organizational and emancipatory policies; which should necessarily be enriched with structural, specific and local policies (which refer to states and municipalities). Aiming to fulfill these requirements it will be required: the creation of popular restaurants, the establishment of new partnerships with supermarket chains and partnerships with retailers, creation of food banks, among others. From the Zero Hunger Program, and for the same purpose, the Municipal Food Bank of Ceasa Campinas was founded in 2003, which has been distributed food quality - considered surplus trades - to social institutions, enabling a healthy and balanced diet to needy individuals.It will be done a survey of bibliographies which has the theme 'food banks' in Brazil. Besides that, it will be done analyses to understand the functioning of the Municipal Food Bank located in the Ceasa of Campinas, and also the vulnerability index of the families who are included in the program. We will conduct bibliografical research, visits and interviews at Ceasa and other social institutions, which are included in the program. Besides that, we will established contact with the "Secretaria Municipal de Cidadania, Assistência e Inclusão Social", more specificly with the "Vigilância Socioassistencial". This research might be characterized as descriptive, qualitative, quantitative and exploratory; and the results will be used to point how and how much, the beneficiaries and society are impacted by the bank.
