Abstract

For a proper functioning of the respiratory system is necessary to have a good sync between lung mechanics, respiratory muscles and movements of the rib cage, structures closely connected. This synchronism may be affected and influenced by the position that the individual adopts. So changes in posture can affect the respiratory function by changes in the actions of the forces of gravity on the body, both in relation to lung volume as compared to ventilation, perfusion and hemodynamics of the respiratory system. The importance of pulmonary function studies and decubitus changes refers to the knowledge of health professionals mainly to physiotherapists, so they can take action and give the necessary guidance for people who remain in the same position for a long time for both healthy persons and to specific populations as obese. Some changes in the respiratory mechanics related to decubitus have been assessed in normal weight subjects, but not in obese subjects, which have functional changes due to deposition of fat in the chest and abdomen, or in relation to the behavior of the plastic properties of the lung front the decubitus changes. Objective: To evaluate the effect of different positions on the respiratory system resistance in normal weight and obese, both without comorbidities using the Oscillometry Impulse, and possible correlations with BMI and the variables obtained by spirometry. Methods: The study is characterized as transversal and randomized. Will participate 72 volunteers free of comorbidities obese and non-obese, aged between 18 and 50 years. Obese will be selected primarily from the Bariatric Surgery Clinic of the Hospital of Ribeirão Preto Medicine School, University of Sao Paulo HCFMRP-USP. Non-obese volunteers will be recruited from the community. The collections will be held at Ribeirão Preto Medicine School - USP in the Respiratory Assessment Laboratory of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy building. After recruitment will be a raffle for the sequence of positions (seated, supine, left lateral or right lateral decubitus) then impulse oscillometry, to obtain the following parameters: resistance (R), reactance (X) reactor area (AX) and resonance frequency (Fres). Spirometry is performed soon after for analysis of the following variables: forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), FEV1/FVC and forced expiratory flow average (FEF25-75%). For blinding will be given of encoding results to allow a blind analysis. (AU)
