Abstract

An Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) is an integrated set of enterprise business in order to reduce costs and environmental impact through cooperation and sharing of services and waste between companies, encouraging the process of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) . Therefore, the SI is essential for the formation of an EIP. Felicio (2016) proposed the use of an indicator, the Industrial Symbiosis Indicator (ISI), to quantify it and monitor its development. However, the ISI is not yet used in practice, and was not evaluated systematically. To be reliable and consistent, an indicator must be validated. In this sense, Cloquell-Ballester et al. (2006) present the 3S Methodology for indicators validation, based on expert judgment, which aims to ensure the quality, reliability and objectivity of indicators in assessments of environmental and social impacts. This research project aims to apply the 3S Methodology for indicators validation to evaluate the ISI. For the application of the 3S Methodology will be used the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and the ELECTRE TRI method as process tools. The first refers to a multi-criteria method used to support decision-making, and the second consists of a method that aims to solve orderly classification problems. (AU)
