Abstract

The variation of external power (Vw) is a strategy usually adopted by athletes from predominantly aerobic modalities in order to avoid the appearance of premature fatigue and maximize athletic performance. Some findings have suggested that a higher degree of Vw is able to reduce the stress on the cardiovascular system during exercise. However, cardiovascular recovery after exercise is not yet fully understood when analyzed at different loads. Therefore, the aim of the study is to compare the impact of the constant and varied workload exercise on the response of the cardiovascular system after exercise. Ten physically active participants will perform 4-km tests with constant and varied load on a cycle simulator, where will be measured the responses of heart rate, blood lactate concentration, oxygen consumption, rate of perceived exertion, power output, time and total work done. The hypothesis is that the constant load exercise will provide a greater overload on the cardiovascular system, resulting in a higher sympathetic activity in early recovery compared to varied load exercise.
