Abstract

The common bean is one of the most consumed foods all over the world, and Brazil is one of the largest producers. The choice of studying the common bean came from the need to find new methods to combat pathogens that could harass the field. One of these plagues is the filamentous soil fungi Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. phaseoli (FOP) which attacks the roots of the plants, burgeoning into its vascular system, which hinders the host's nutrient supply, leading to root rot, yellowing of the leaves and subsequent reduced seed production. It's known that plants are able to hire benefic microorganisms that dwells in the rhizosphere, and the most studied is the interaction between Leguminosae and Rhizobium, working as organic fertilizer, boosting the plant's growth and its productivity. The goal of this project is to inspect the microbial diversity found within the Amazonian Dark Earth (ADE), searching for microorganisms showing an antagonistic effect against the growth of the fungi FOP. Previouslyisolated bacteria from the TPA will be tested against the fungi in vitro and in planta, aiming a biological control against this pathogenic fungi. (AU)
