Abstract

Buffalo milk has a high total solids content, mainly protein and fat, which assure high yield in its processing. However, mastitis, an inflammatory disease of the mammary gland, affects the quality and quantity of milk produced. In this context, new scientific approaches such as proteomics, have been widely used in animal research in general, but mainly in attempting to understand the nature of the disease in dairy animals. The aim of this study is to evaluate the proteins that are present in buffalo milk with, and without, subclinical mastitis using a proteomic approach with the goal of identifying potential biomarkers for infection. For this purpose, samples of milk from buffaloes diagnosed with mastitis and healthy animals will be collected for extraction and quantitation of proteins, which will subsequently be digested with trypsin. Differential expression to be verified by a mass spectrometer coupled to a nanoflow chromatography system (LC-MS/MS). The comparative and quantitative analyzes of the samples will be performed using the spectral counting method. The results will be important to further understand the behavior of the disease in the mammary gland and therefore may aid in early diagnosis. (AU)
