Abstract

What here is intended is to make a study in two great moves. The first of which takes us back to Freud's work, as to investigate a concept that is fundamental to contemporary psychoanalytical theoretical and clinical studies, that is, the notion of Thirdness. Believing that the idea of ruptures can by itself be problematized in Freudian thought, we seek to correlate the fact that the development of Freud's works resides on pairs of opposites, in dualities that manifest themselves theoretically in a series of Freud's formulations, to the observation that these pair of opposites do not seen to hinder the investigation of the space of Thirdness in Freud's works, a study that is further supported by some texts in which Freud is seem to be in need of a lócus of Thirdness, which contrasts with his classic dual system. Then, as a second move, it is intend to shed light on how Freud makes his systematic criticism of religion; and how the space of the Thirdness is fundamental to enlarge the scope of our own understanding of the Freudian critique of the religious phenomenon.
