Abstract

Music pervades the life of the most diverse cultures. Its practice, despite the goals intended, spans all civilizations and, thus, also its reception. Since the birth of radio, the access to a variety of musical repertoires has been facilitated, and perhaps today this very access has found its peak - the age of the download. However, access does not necessarily imply quality listening, nor a musical consolidation between both music and listener. So what would it be like, this listening? The goal, here, is to sketch a listening model based on the critical revision of three authors who dealt with this theme during the last century, seeing it from different angles: Theodor Adorno, Pierre Schaeffer and Murray Schafer. The model's aim is to allow the establishment of a proper musical relationship with music at the moment of its reception, and whose application be possible for both musicians and non-musicians. This study is justified by the importance of recognizing listening as an active practice, as well as the importance of this very listening to a subject's musical education, no matter if he wants to be a professional or an amateur. Finally, it is the intent of this study to make it clear that it is through listening that people become interested in musical practice and that guidance is needed for listening activities, in order to potentialize learning and even the students' aesthetic pleasure obtained from music.
