Abstract

Previous data indicate that the lack of PTEN protein leads to morphological alterations, which generate dysfunction in the neuronal development that commits its normal function. Understanding these mechanisms and the pathways to reverse or retard this process can result in benefits in the treatment and prevention of diseases related to the Central Nervous System (CNS).PTEN (Phosphatase and tensin homolog on chromosome ten) is a tumor suppressor protein that is related to growth, proliferation and cellular survival. PTEN's deletion leads to alteration in the number, size and migration of the cells resulting in hypertrophic dendrites and increased ramifications. Based on studies that showed the potential of the klotho protein to reverse or retard stem cell, this project aims to study the possible effects of the klotho in PTEN deleted neurons in revert the morphological alterations generated by the lack of PTEN and the likely signaling pathway involved in this morphological modulation.
