Abstract

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are hollow structures of materials formed by graphene sheets rolled in a cylinder with nanometric diameters. They have attracted the attraction of many researchers, due to its excellent electrical, chemical, mechanical and thermal properties, as well as having a single structure with a high surface area and high quality active sites.Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a material with amazing properties, as well as CNT has attracted attention for various applications, as an excellent oxide semiconductor, has low cost, chemical stability, high catalytic activity and corrosion resistance in ambient biological.When the CNTs are coated with TiO2 form nanocomposites, the combination further enhances their individual properties. For example, they have higher photocatalytic capacity to pure TiO2, greater efficiency in photoelectric conversion. CNTs in polymer matrices inserted improve the mechanical and electrical properties thereof.This work aims to obtain CNTs coated with a uniform layer and controllable thickness of TiO2. In order to form nanocomposites with improved mechanical and catalytic properties. Importantly, this research project aims only to obtain the coated CNTs. The preparation of nanocomposites as well as their catalytic and mechanical characterization, will be made by other researchers in our research group.The CNT-TiO2 nanomaterials are characterized by: Raman Spectroscopy, Electronic High Resolution Scanning Microscopy (FEG), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Vibrational Spectroscopy Infrared (FTIR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and analysis thermogravimetric (TGA).
