Abstract

The objective of the present study is to investigate the route of the mental disorders' cure proposition enclosed on the Freudian psychoanalysis, embracing the period of 1890 to 1939 and to elaborate a brief study about the cure on the contemporary psychiatric model. Furthermore, a specific objective is to analyze the relevance or irrelevance of psychoanalysis' questionings about the cure of mental disorders on the contemporary psychiatry's context. Nowadays, in the context of treatments for mental disorders, society hopes for innovations on psychopharmacology, a new generation of medicines that could replace conventional therapeutic methods. . The consequent growth of the biological dimension reveals a side of psychiatry in which the physical overpowers the psychic, justified for the desire to treat, to classify or to cure the psychic with the same efficiency that the organic is treated. When the treatment starts, the final expectation is the cure of the disorder, which consists in the return of the patient to its condition before the development of the disorder. The ultimate goal of this type of intervention is the remission of the symptoms, unlike the prevailing conception of cure in psychoanalysis. The present investigation is justifiable by the importance of the search for a cure to mental disorders, the doubts quested on psychoanalysis if it's a valid psychotherapeutic approach for the development of treatment methods and the contemporary debate on the medicalization of the everyday life. The execution of the research is divided into three parts: the first one, to comprehend the route of the conception of cure in psychoanalysis, the second one, which will systematize a few scientific studies about the therapeutic used for depression in the psychiatric model, and finally the third one, the discussion of the found results, allowing the material's analysis and final report.
