Abstract The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics has been highly successful at describing current experimental data. However, it is an effective theory, as it contains many free parameters. The SM electroweak scale is unstable, giving rise to the Scale Hierarchy Problem. A solution for this problem requires new physics at 1 TeV scale, which is precisely the energy range explored in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The origin of fermionic mass problem may not show up in the LHC, but at least the origin of the neutrino mass problem is going to be experimentally tested in experiments performed with neutrino beams, and in many others under construction or in planning stage. This project hopes to familiarize the student with the theoretical framework of particle physics, and afterwards to study particle physics per se, aiming to provide comprehension of the SM. (AU) | |
