Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the survival rate of occlusal-proximal Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) restorations compared to the Hall technique (HT). In addition, this project will also investigate questions about discomfort reported by the patient, perception and concerns related to dental appearance reported by the patients and their parents/caregivers, acceptance to the treatments reported by patients and their parents/caregivers, evaluation of occlusal vertical dimension and cost-efficacy assessment of the two techniques studied. We will select 120 children from 6-8 years old with one occlusal-proximal carious lesion in primary molar. The lesions dimensions will not exceed 1.0 mm (mesiodistal), 1.5 mm (occlusal-cervical) and 2.0 mm (bucco-lingual), measured with periodontal probe. The selected children will be allocated into two groups: control group - ART restorations, using the high-viscosity GIC (Equia Forte, GC Corp) protecting the restoration with G-Coat Plus and experimental group - HT treatments, with steel crowns (3M ESPE) cemented with GIC for cementations (Fuji I, GC Corp). The treatments will be evaluated after 1, 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months by one trained and calibrated examiner. The reproducibility intraexaminer will be calculated by weighted Kappa test. To evaluate the normality of data Kolmogorov-Smirnov test will be used. To verify the survival rate of treatments, as well as to evaluate the survival of the teeth examined Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank test will be used. To evaluate the association between the outcome and patient variables Cox regression test will be used. Poisson analyzes will be used to verify the association between the treatment group and discomfort reported by the patient, perception and concerns related to dental appearance reported by the patients and their parents/caregivers, acceptance to the treatments reported by patients and their parents/caregivers, occlusal vertical dimension and cost-efficacy assessment of the two techniques studied. Prevalence ratio or rate ratio with 95% confidence interval (95%) will be calculated depending on the outcome to be considered. The significance level for all analyzes will be p<0.05. (AU)
