Abstract

Background: The negative consequences of weight gain and the high likelihood to pediatric obesity track into adulthood, highlight the importance to target youth "at risk" for obesity. Objective: Evaluate the six-month intervention effect; investigate the weight behaviors that can mediate effects on weight and methodological and theoretical issues of the intervention. Methods: The "Healthy Habits, Healthy Girls - Brazil" is a 6-month randomized control trial based on the Social Cognitive Theory, aiming on the obesity prevention. The study was conducted in 10 public schools of São Paulo, Brazil. The outcomes were BMI, BMI Z score, physical activity level, food consumption and screen behaviors. The analyses will follow the intention-to-treat principle, and baseline group differences will be assessed using t-student and chi-squared tests. Linear mixed model and coefficient product test will be used to assess the intervention effects and mediator effects of behavior change. The methodological and theoretical issues will be conducted using thematic analysis technique. For all the statistical tests will be set an alpha level of significance of p<0.05. The intervention data was collected in 2015 and will be analysed in 2016.
