Abstract The objective of this research proposal for a sabbatical leave is the development of new methods for the coupled set of equations modelling multiphase flows in porous media, with direct application to the simulation of petroleum reservoirs. While the majority of developed methods employ operator splitting techniques, we propose the development of coupled techniques that, together with implicit schemes, have better stability properties. Such methods will be further coupled with multiscale techniques, allowing for better scalability in the simulation of field scale reservoir flow problems. This project will be conducted at University of Texas at Dallas, USA, in a collaboration with Prof. Felipe Pereira from the Department of Mathematical Sciences. (AU) | |
