Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare, through in vitro assays, the kinetics of superficial degradation of VITA HT and VITA YZ ceramics against hydrothermal aging, evaluating specifically: a) Differences of topographical features (granules, defects and chemical properties); b) Evaluate the presence of martensitic change in high translucency ceramic; c) To analyze the flexural strength of the control and test groups; d) Build the aging curve of specimens. 180 samples will be made, 90 of each type of ceramic, distributed in the following groups: Control, Aged for 30 minutes and Aged for 90 minutes, totaling 30 samples per group for both types of ceramics. Samples will be submerged in deionized water and aged through an isothermal reactor at 134°C under pressure of 2 bars at two different aging times. The control group is exempted of any treatment. The surface of the specimens will be characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), by optical perfilometry and diffraction of X-rays. For the mechanical strength analysis, discs will be done for both types of ceramic, arranged in same groups as the specimens above. The test shall be performed in a universal testing machine (Emic DL-1000, Emic, São José dos Pinhais, PR, Brazil). The results will be tallied and Tukey, Pearson and Weibull analytical means will be used to compare the variations between the groups (p=0.05).
