Abstract

The change of the hospitalocentric system focus to a community model start spreading to consumers of alcohol and other drugs. However, the fact is that according to the changes achieved by the Psychiatric Reformulation in Brazil, is that the compulsory hospitalization is now applied in large scale, especially, requested by families of the addiction person, under mandatories laws. There is an increase number of compulsory hospitalization of drug and alcohol abusers. Studies shown few scientific proofs of the efficiency of those hospitalizations, when used for treatment of addiction. Our research aims to understand the senses constructed with the families about the compulsory or involuntary hospitalization of the person that uses alcohol and other drugs. To achieve this, we are going to do a semi-structured interview with the families of drug users, that were previously, taken by involuntary or compulsory hospitalization. The data analyses is going to be done using social construcionist intelligibility, taking care of the construction of senses inside the historical-cultural, life experience and social interaction context. The project has been submitted to the Ethical Research Committee of FFCLRP-USP. (AU)
