Effects of acute administration of Cannabidiol on anxiety and tremors induced by simulation test of public speaking in Parkinson's disease patients

Abstract

Recent studies have pointed to the beneficial effects of cannabidiol (CBD) on anxiety symptoms and possible effects on quality of life of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), but no study was conducted to evaluate the effects of CBD on anxiety symptoms in PD patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of acute administration of CBD at a dose of 300mg on tremors and measures of anxiety (subjective and physiological) induced by simulated public speaking in PD patients. The frequency and severity of tremor will be evaluated throughout the experiment by digital three-axis accelerometers. A total of 24 individuals with PD without psychiatric disorders will be allocated to receive CBD 300mg or placebo in a double blind randomized crossover design. The interval between tests should be 15 days. The CBD or placebo will be administered 90 minutes before the beginning the experiment. The results of this project could contribute to greater understanding of the potential effects of CBD on anxiety symptoms and tremors of PD patients and provide data for new clinical drug applications.
