Abstract

Due to commercial and regional importance in São Paulo State south coast, the "manjuba" Anchoviella lepidentostole (Fowler, 1911) is a fishing resource that needs special attention, mainly due to the possibility of rearing in captivity, aspect little studied and with evident lack of information in the literature. Thus the objective of this study will be to evaluate the survival of A. lepidentostole utilizing different forms of catches and handling post-catches in transport with or without anesthetics. To do so are conducted two experiments: 1) the first will be held in the Iguape - SP city (Valo Grande channel) using three fishing gears: trollers network, "manjubeira" and cast net, so survival rates will be assessed a function of capture by exertion unit with a minimum of 100 fish per fishing gear. 2) in the second experiment will be used 150 fish which will be distributed in a completely randomized design containing three treatments with three replicates, in the respective modes: without anesthetic, benzocaine 10 mg L-1 and eugenol 20 mg L-1, totaling nine experimental units. It will be considered as an experimental unit a plastic box (26.5L) with oxygenating bomb, containing 25 fish in each. The fish will be transported over a distance of approximately 100 km (1.5 h) where survival rates are evaluated. To the different ways of catching, survival will be assessed by the Z test and transportation with and without anesthetic is applied the variance analysis (one-way ANOVA) at 5% of significance.
