Abstract

The term sustainable appears as an adjective of development, with the perception of finiteness of natural resources, qualified with the environmental and economic dimensions. Only from the Agenda 21 appears the social dimension, which, added to the previous two, it is the basis for the definition of sustainable housing. Some initiatives to encourage sustainability comes with the evaluation systems, which, in the begning, were only for building scale, but with the realization that sustainability is better understood when viewed on large scales, come to also consider the neighborhood, until the scale of the city. Thus, arose evaluation methods as SBTool, BREEAM Communities and CASBEE for cities. For the follow-up of social housing these assessments often focus only on the environmental and economic aspects. Thus, researches has come to try to understand what is relevant in assessing sustainability in this context. In Brazil, the only method that can achieve the interesting social housing (ISH) sector is the Selo Casa Azul, so the projects of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program are evaluated by this system. However, there are already research demonstrating that the Selo may not be sufficient to capture the actual sustainability aspects of these constructions. This research aims to verify the suitability and sensitivity of some assessment methods in capturing relevant sustainability aspects of ISH in Brazil. For this, they will be selected at least two case studies and some evaluation methods to be applied in these cases, two pre-selected systems: Selo Casa Azul and HQI. (AU)
