Abstract

The citrus rust mite Phyllocoptruta oleivora is one of the main citrus pests. The problems attributed to P. oleivora have been intensified and it is suspected that the damages are related to a new eriophyidae species recently described, the citrus brown mite Tegolophus brunneus.However, there are not studies about that species and information about distribution, economic losses, symptomatology, bioecological characteristics, susceptibility to acaricides and natural enemies are lacking. The principal goal of that project will be to determine the distribution of T. brunneus in the main citrus production regions of São Paulo State. Besides, it will be determined the biology of T. remus in the laboratory, the susceptibility of that mite to the main acaricides, the damages in citrus plants and the predator species associated to that mite will be identified, as well them potential for using in biological control. Samples will be collected in orchards with a historical of eriophyidae infestation in municipalies of the regions North, Northwest, Center, South and South-West of São Paulo State to know the distribution of the main mite predators associated. Biology of T. brunneus will be determine on citrus fruits evaluating daily oviposition, hatching, viability, and development time for all stagies. Citrus fruits infested with T. brunneus will be sprayed in Potter Tower using the main acaricides, evaluating afterwards the mortality, to know the mite susceptibility to the main acaricides. Citrus plants will be infested with T. brunneus adults in greenhouse, evaluating afterwards development of damages. The predator mite species more frequent and abundant collected in the field will be reared in the laboratory using T. brunneus as prey, in different densities, to evaluate the predation potential of that species, and for using in biological control.
