Abstract

The use of oral contraceptives for the adjuvant treatment of women with mild and severe endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain is considered first-line option due to be a cost-effective medical treatment. It has low side-effects and is well tolarated. However the efficacy compared to others treatments has conflicting results. The aim of this study is to collect data and synthesise the actual knowledge through a systematic review and a meta-analysis. The systematic literature search and qualitative review will be performed according to PRISMA guidelines . The systematic search will be conduced with studies identified by searching MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials e LILACS until 2016. The search strategy will include controled vocabulary ( eSH) and key-words (eg. endometriosis, oral contraceptives, laparosopy e surgery) as synonyms and truncation.
