Abstract

This project aims at the assessment of the effects of carbon monoxide inhalation on the exergy behavior of the human body, since this is one of the most common air pollutants in urban centers and that more exergy destruction can be associated with an expectation lower life. For this purpose it will be used the carbon monoxide transport model developed by Neto Albuquerque (2005) to evaluate the concentrations of oxygen gases, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in different tissues of the respiratory system. A Second Law Efficiency of the lung has been proposed and will used to evaluate the impacts of various concentrations of carbon monoxide. From previous analysis of the student, it was concluded that a higher rate of poisoning is associated with lower values of exergy efficiency and a higher concentration of hemoglobin associated with one monoxide poisoning leads to lower exergy efficiencies. Therefore, the objective is to continue such studies as well as complement the proposed model by entering the effect of binding oxygen and carbon monoxide with hemoglobin in the exergy model of the respiratory system.
