Abstract

Treatment for chronic kidney disease where transplantation is chronicity or intensive immunosuppression therapy. However, besides the complications as a result of clinical conditions, infections and/or viral reactivations are associated with high morbidity and mortality in transplant patients and who have chronic glomerulopathy. In this case, especially pediatric patients, have an increased risk of acquiring a primary infection, receiving during the transplant, the organ of a seropositive donor to the virus from a deceased donor or a living donor, which can transmit these virus defenseless receivers. One of the sets of viruses that may be associated with complications during immunosuppression of pediatric renal failure patients are Adenovirus viral agents, polyomavirus type BK and herpesvirus Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV), human herpesvirus 6 and 7 virus. The most common complications, we can mention the development of lymphoproliferative diseases and graft rejection, in addition to the involvement of other organs such as the liver and lung. Thus, strategies for active infections detection caused by viruses, which have high sensitivity and speed, should be used due the need for specific therapeutic interventions. Monitoring through quantitative PCR in real time, when well standardized, is the most appropriate, as well as detecting can also quantify the viral load. Given the above, this project aims to study renal transplant pediatric patients and those with chronic glomerulopathy using the nested PCR technique in detecting and Real-Time PCR detection and quantification of the DNA of these viruses; validate the preemptive monitoring strategy in this group of patients using the techniques employed in this work. There are few previous studies evaluating infections in this group of pediatric chronic renal pathogens patients and therefore this project is a pioneering study in this area, which aims to increase knowledge to ensure better survival and reduction of risks of morbidity and mortality in these patients.
