Abstract

Literature research shows that power inverters coupled to the network by means of LC filters have been used to solve different energy quality problems. Different names are attributed to this topology as the bibliography shows. It has been successfully applied as hybrid filter in harmonics compensation. In this case, the main advantage is that most of the voltage drop is on the capacitor, thus reducing the nominal voltage of the inverter, consequently reducing its constructive power as well. Even though reactive power injection is possible using this topology, this would require an inverter with a higher voltage rating. Here, the series association of the power inverter with the LC filter is called "basic unit". The applications of this topology, including the ones not found in the literature are to be explored. It is expected to avoid resonances and harmonic currents in switched capacitor banks, to solve selectivity problems in passive harmonic filters and to develop a strategy that allows reactive power compensation using several "basic units" with thyristor-based switches with a "reduced voltage inverter". As this project requires controllers that satisfies performance specifications with large plant deviations (as in a switched capacitor bank), the LQG/LTR and H-infinity robust control technique are going to be used. Prototypes are going to be built in partnership with the project "Design and Hardware Platform Building for the Research of MMC (Modular Multilevel Converter) Systems" (FAPESP 2016/01930-0), developed in the same laboratory.
