Abstract

Controlling the active power flow is not the only way to improve the energy efficiency in a smart grid. Reactive, harmonic distortion and unbalance compensation are some of the other possible actions to get better power quality and, consequently, higher energy efficiency. All of these functionalities can be applied using the same switching power interface associated to the distributed generation.If the grid's inverters can be distributed controlled with cooperative operation, the system stability, power quality and efficiency can be improved, since the system's losses, harmonic interaction and voltage disturbances will be attenuated.Then, this project proposes to approach distributed control with cooperative operation applied to power inverters connected to a non-ideal low voltage grid (residential grid). Which basically means that the all inverters will be distributed controlled and all of them will work cooperatively to reach a common micro-grid goal. (AU)
