Abstract

Introduction: The central auditory processing (CAP) can be defined as the way in which the nervous system deals with auditory information. Receptive vocabulary refers to the words that the child is able to understand. Decoding and reading comprehension involve skills related to sensory, cognitive, linguistic and social processes that allow the reader to interpret a printed script. Thus, checking the association between this skill in 5th year students is required, since the knowledge of the meaning of written words facilitates the process of decoding and reading comprehension. Purpose To characterize the performance of 5th year primary school students, with and without indicatives of reading and writing changes in the CAP, receptive vocabulary and reading comprehension and verify possible correlations between them. Method: The study included 40 5th year primary school children, with and without indicatives of reading and writing changes. The subjects will be evaluated individually. Initially all children take a specific test for the assessment of receptive vocabulary through the Vocabulary Figures Test - USP, and the reading comprehension test, the PROLEC test. On another day, students will be assessed for the PAC in a given location. The data tests will undergo statistical analysis. (AU)
