Abstract

Warfarin is the most widely used anticoagulant drug for treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease, especially those with prosthetic valves and atrial fibrillation. Despite its efficacy there is a management problem when it comes from the reduction of thrombotic events without creating an increased risk of bleeding. Maintaining the effectiveness and safety of warfarin therapy is extremely dependent on the laboratory control of coagulation, which must maintain a therapeutic level for each clinical indication. Given the large number of hospitalizations and adverse reaction reports related to the use of this medicine and also the need for good monitoring of anticoagulant therapy, this study aims to identify risk factors for drug adverse reactions to warfarin use after discharge. It is a subproject of the study entitled "Warfarin and risk factors for adverse reaction" - in progress in HCFMRP- USP, which is a descriptive study of patients who were hospitalized from March to November 2015, and initiated treatment with warfarin in this period. Data collection will be done by the clinical records of patients and telephone interview, applying an investigative form in order to collect information such as knowledge and adherence with respect to anticoagulant therapy, as well as the other drugs used by the patients, and eventual side effects. In these cases, the study will seek to classify them according to the degree of intensity (moderate or mild to severe). (AU)
