Abstract

Classification is an essential process for organizing information in libraries and other information units. Among its possible applications, it is included the organization of the World Wide Web in the context of the Semantic Web, in order to make information sharing more meaningful and accurate. From this Web comes the Linked Data proposal, which aims the connection of related data contained in the Web through semantic links. You can use efficiently to that end the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) system, due to its flexibility and universal quality, promoting greater intersection between the areas of technology and Information Science, thus contributing to the increase of research in this regard and also serving as a solution to the problems of information retrieval. Through state of the art methodology, the study aims to verify the application of the principles of Linked Data to the Universal Decimal Classification System (UDC). It is expected the results to get new perspectives on linked data in information units and contribute to the development of the area of Classification and Information Science. (AU)
